Just In: Police Seal Cross River Assembly After Legislators’ Dismissal

Personnel of the Nigerian Police Force belonging to different units have cordoned all roads leading to the Cross River House of Assembly shortly after an Abuja High Court sacked 18 members of the Assembly and two federal lawmakers for defecting to the APC from PDP.

Eye witness account indicates that police personnel were spotted at the complex of the Assembly as early as 6:00 am. The police also positioned themselves at various strategic locations in and around Governor Ben Ayade’s office, which is just a stone’s throw from the complex of the Assembly.

Some political thugs were also seen smoking and consuming all sorts of illicit drugs, a development that heightened fear and anxiety over the unknown.

Opposite the route to the Assembly is the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar. Men suspected to be political party supporters can also be seen smoking and sipping hot drinks.

Motorists and passersby are having difficulty meandering through the crowd of security men and their vans.

It was learnt that the security buildup is a result of the judgment delivered at Abuja High Court by Justice Taiwo Taiwo which sacked 18 lawmakers from the state and two from the House of Representatives for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The ruling APC has claimed to have applied to the court for a stay of execution of the judgment, while the party proceeded to the Appeal Court.
