Kwara Govt. Warns Butchers Against Selling Contaminated Meat

Kwara government has warned butchers to desist from selling contaminated meat, saying that anyone caught in the act would be prosecuted.

Mrs Oloruntoyosi Thomas, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, made the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ilorin.

The Commissioner warned butchers from running illegal businesses around livestock market and desist from buying slaughtered meats from unregistered abattoirs in the state.

She stressed that people should patronise government-established abattoirs, where they would purchase healthy meat for consumption.

“Government-approved abattoirs have been well constructed and managed, in which all the slaughtered animals are well scrutinised before making them available for public consumption.

“This will prevent the people from eating contaminated meats that are harmful to the health.

“This is why the present administration is working hard to ensure safety of lives of the people, as well as improving their standard of living,” she said.

The Commissioner called on the public to be careful of the places they purchase their meat for consumption, saying that their health should be their top priority.

She, therefore, said that any illegal abattoirs discovered would be shut down, their meats confiscated and the sellers prosecuted in the court of law. (NAN)
