Niger Police Arrests Kidnapper in Mokwa Community

The Niger State Police Command says it has arrested one Mohammed Bello, a resident of Bate-Ukpo village in Mokwa local council who attempted to kidnap someone in Tuntiko, a neighbouring village.

A statement released by the command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that the suspect was arrested on Saturday in Tuntiko village after a gunshot was fired.

“Earlier, on 21/01/2023 at about 0100hrs, information was received that a strange gunshot was heard around Tuntiko village, Mokwa LGA and Patrol team attached to Mokwa Div with local vigilante members were drafted to the area.

“In the process of combing the nearby forest around the village, one Mohamed Bello of Bate-Ukpo village, Mokwa was arrested with one locally fabricated gun and a cutlass,” he stated.

According to him, the suspect, during interrogation, confessed that he conspired with one Dogo Yellow and Dogo Mai-Saje, both presently at large to kidnap a person in the village.

Abiodun noted that there are efforts to arrest the other fleeing suspects, adding that they would be arraigned in court after investigations.
