Notorious Robber Attempted Jailbreak in Bauchi to Release Accomplice — He Lost His Life

Babba Dan Ajasko, a notorious armed robber last night, wreaked havoc in Misau town of Bauchi State, in a brave attempt to release his accomplice, Muhammadu Nangunmo, from prison. Unfortunately for him, he lost his life during the escapade.

Ajasko who is among the declared most wanted criminals in Misau by authorities, escaped being arrested two weeks ago in Kano State. Yet, he formed a squad to break the Misau Custodial Centre where his team member was held after he was convicted by a court.

Residents living close to the facility told WikkiTimes they heard sounds of gunshots around 2:30 am, thus, causing panic among the residents who were past asleep.

“We were sleeping when I heard sounds of gunshots, I just stumbled from my bed, and I heard my neighbours also in panic,” a resident of Bakin Kasuwa Misau told WikkiTimes. “We later realized that the sound came from the main road leading to the prison.”

“Later after morning prayers, we heard that it was Babba Dan Ajasko who was killed by security operatives when he wanted to free his friend, Nangunmo who was arrested and held in the prison,” he added.

Repelled by NSCDC Operatives

Ibrahim Abubakar Gabdo, spokesman, Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps told WikkiTimes that operatives of the command successfully repelled the attempted jailbreak.

According to him, operatives of the command had earlier arrested some notorious armed robbers terrorising Misau in Kano but one of them escaped, and after realizing that his friend was convicted by the court and held in Misau Custodial Centre, he set up a squad to free him.

Abubakar said operatives of the command who had privileged information about their planned activities, ambushed them on their way to the custodial centre, neutralizing one of them.

“Two weeks ago there were some suspects arrested in Misau and were paraded here in Bauchi. We used intelligence reports to trail and arrest them in Kano. So in the process of that arrest, one of them escaped while the others were subsequently arraigned in court,” explained the spokesman.

“So the other one grouped his members to release their friend who was in prison,” he continued. “In the process, we had intelligence reports about it and that is why we ambushed them after exchanging fire with our operatives. The leader has been killed while others escaped with gun wounds.”

“They were not able to reach the prison because we are aware of their coming as a result of the intelligence reports we had. The operation was carried out by our operatives alone. It wasn’t a joint operation. We are the ones who have the report and executed it,” Gabdo clarified.
