NPFL: Jigawa Golden Stars Beat Plateau United

Jigawa Golden Stars of Hadeija on Sunday in Kaduna boosted their position in the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with a 1-0 defeat of Plateau United FC of Jos.

Substitute Sani Bature scored the match’s lone goal with almost the last kick of the game played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

Speaking after the match, the coach of Jigawa Golden Stars, Gilbert Opana, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the game adding that it was a deserved victory.

“I am happy with the outcome of the match and knowing that we have moved to 16th place on the league table is a thing of joy.

“Everybody is in a hurry to win and that shows a level of anxiety and you know people don’t take it that goals come when they have to come.

“It is not by forcing the goals to come, as people also believe that you must win in the first 45 minutes of the game.

“Because of this belief of people that you must win in the first half, players also go with that anxiety to win not knowing that it doesn’t work that way.

“I know the quality of players I have and it is not in our style to be in a hurry.

“I allow them play what is our game rather than playing to draw. Whenever we draw a game, we are playing to the advantage of our opponents,” he said.

Also speaking, the coach of Plateau United, Abdu Maikaba, said losing in football is a normal thing, even though he blamed his team for the loss.

“In every football match there must be a winner and a loser. But I believe it was our fault in this match, because we had two or three goalscoring chances but our players didn’t take the right decisions and couldn’t convert them to goals.

“I hope it will be a lesson to us in our next match because if we do not concentrate and do the needful same will happen to us.”(NAN)
