Nura Manu Soro Foundation disburses N17 million as scholarship to 4, 000 Bauchi students

A foundation in Bauchi, Nura Manu Soro foundation has disbursed the sum of N17, 933, 449 million as scholarship to 4, 000 less privileged students studying at 54 institutions across the nation.

Malam Mukhtar Jarmajo, a member of the executive committee of the foundation made the disclosure at a news conference in Bauchi on Thursday.

He said the beneficiaries of the scholarship are students of Bauchi state origin who are studying at Islamiyya schools, primary schools, secondary schools, higher Islamic schools and tertiary institutions who have applied for the scholarship.

Jarmajo said the awardees were selected through a thorough screening process before they were eventually awarded.

He said the scholarship covers only tuition fees for poor students who cannot afford to shoulder their education.

“Both applications, selections and verification are being carried out through a local committee. At the tertiary level, it includes students, religious leaders and a representative from students affairs office. While at the basic education level it made up of headmaster, PTA chairman and the child parent”.

“Further verification are carried out at the foundation secretariat. The foundation makes payments directly to schools accounts and not individuals”, he said.

Jarmajo said the foundation’s chairman Alhaji Nura Manu Soro was passionate about helping students, aimed at alleviating their sufferings.

Jarmajo added that the foundation is blessed with professionals with commensurate capacity to take care of the implantation of the scholarship programme to ensure the only qualified candidates are selected to benefit from the gesture.
