The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects in separate operations over alleged motorcycle theft and drug trafficking within the Bauchi metropolis.
According to a statement from the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakil, detectives from the A Division apprehended two suspected motorcycle thieves following actionable intelligence from a resident of Bakaro area.
The suspects, identified as Abdulhamid Auwal, alias Wala (20), and Aliyu Rabiu, alias Hitler (20), allegedly conspired with three others to burgle the residence of one Baba Karami in Unguwar Sarkin Kofa, where they stole a Bajaj motorcycle.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to dismantling the motorcycle, concealing it in a sack, and selling it,” Wakil stated.
He added that preliminary investigation revealed the gang specialised in stealing motorcycles within their neighbourhood. Other accomplices, identified as Mahmood Mahmood, alias Ankula, and Ganiya, are still at large.
The police assured that efforts are ongoing to track the fleeing suspects, while those in custody will be charged in court after profiling.
In another operation, operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested three young men for allegedly distributing cannabis in the Wuntin Dada area of Bauchi.
The suspects – Hussaini Lawal (20), Baba Sadiq Ibrahim (18), and Wada Yusuf (21) – were caught in an uncompleted building near Asorock mountain with items suspected to be cannabis sativa and drug-related paraphernalia.
Recovered exhibits include half a block of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, six knives, two pairs of scissors, four lighters, a container of cigarette leaves, and a bunker.
One of the suspects, Hussaini Lawal, reportedly confessed to dealing in cannabis for over a year and named other associates involved in the trade.
“The Command remains committed to ridding Bauchi of criminal elements through proactive and intelligence-led policing,” CSP Wakil added.
