POS Operator Blames PalmPay for Withholding Customers’ Money Three Months After Failed Transactions

Yellow Uforo, a Point of Sale (POS) operator in Onitsha, Enugu State, has detailed how PalmPay, a digital wallet company, is holding over N60,000 belonging to himself and his customers three months after failed transactions.

The POS operator told WikkiTimes that his customers had failed transactions amounting to N56,500 including another N10,000 belonging to himself.

A Lagos-based lady, Nweke Martha Ogechi had initiated a transaction of N50,000 on October 29 2022, using her United Bank for Africa (UBA) debit card.

“A customer came to withdraw N50,000 from my stand and I charged her 500 for it,” Uforo told WikkiTimes. “The transaction was declined and the customer was debited afterwards.”

Uforo explained that he advised the customer to report to her bank and fill out a dispute form.

“The lady came back days ago to show that the transaction was successful through a reverse from her bank on November 4,” said Uforo, adding the money was reversed to PalmPay and not his wallet.

“I have sent them a series of emails but they kept saying, I should go back to the application, but nothing is there,” he added.

“The lady returned to me that her bank sensed that I did fraud, explaining further that they (bank officials) asked the lady to engage police with a transaction receipt which showed that the transaction was reversed successfully,” Uforo said.

“The lady’s money is N50,500, another customer lost N6,000 and mine is N10,000,” he said.

The POS operator said he hates being tagged as a fraudster. “It is disappointing and I just want the money to be returned,” he said.

Attempts to reach PalmPay proved abortive as a number provided on its official website was not connecting. Also, an email sent to the bank had not been responded to at press time.
