Rehabilitation Works Begins on Failed Portion of Kari-Bauchi Road

The Bauchi State Government has begun the rehabilitation of the culvert damaged by flood at Konkiyel village of Darazo local council.

The road that links Bauchi with neighbouring Yobe and Borno states has been endangering the lives of motorists using the road.

Malam Sani Konkiyel, a resident of the village told WikkiTimes drivers do wait for one another to ply the damaged road to avoid collisions.

Sani said the people of the area had to place leaves on the road to alert drivers that there was an imminent danger.

He, however, expressed sight of relief seeing that the contractor has been mobilised to repair the damaged portions of the road.

Ahmed Adamu, a commuter narrated his experience using the road.

“We were returning from Bauchi on Tuesday, being a market day in Konkiyel, we saw vehicles parked by the side, I first thought it was an accident that happened but later on I learnt that it was a hold-up caused by motorists waiting for others to give them space on the road.

“The damaged portion could break down the road because almost half of it has been washed away. Vehicles have to drive through the edge to pass and this causes heavy hold-ups in the area,” he said.

Bala Mohammed, Bauchi State governor, however, ordered immediate rehabilitation of the road, WikkiTimes learnt.

Checks revealed that the ongoing rehabilitation was awarded to Habibu Nigeria LTD with a timeline of two weeks to complete the rehabilitation
