The annual procession by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria otherwise known as Ashura has turned bloody in Bauchi as police try to halt members of the sect from holding its procession.
The clash occurred at about 9:AM along central market when the members of the Islamic sect were demonstrating.
Our correspondent reports that the police men hurled tear gas to disperse the demonstrators even as they shot some of the members who defied police order to stop the rally.
Two members of the sect were feared dead, many injured as the police disperse the gatherings.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar did not respond to calls as at the time of filing this report.
