Speakers’ Conference Drums For Community Policing To Tame Insecurity

The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has advocated that strong community policing will effectively tame the general challenges associated with insecurity in the country.

The Conference in a communiqué signed by its Chairman, Rt Hon Abubakar Sulaiman and made available to reporters in Bauchi on Saturday, calls on the Federal Government to redesign Nigeria’s security architecture to deal with insecurity in the country.

The Conference expressed dismay over the evolving security challenges in Nigeria, describing the situation as worrisome.

“The Conference calls on the Federal Government to tinker with the security architecture in the country to reflect the demographic reality of our country.

“The Conference also advocates for Community Policing as a way out of the problem,” the Communiqué read in part.

The conference also resolved to give voice to Nigerians in the ongoing constitution review by organising public hearing in all the 36 states of the Federation.
