This Visually-impaired Mechanic Solves Probelms with Mind

A Visually-impaired mechanic in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Murtala Abdullahi Shuaibu, says he could discover a fault in vehicles when he mindly listens to the sound they make.

Shuaibu, a father of two told Daily Trust in a video interview that he has been married for 20 years, adding he attended school in Edo State.

According to the visually-imapired, his initial plans was to start begging on the street but later he changed his mind and decided to use his skills as a source of income.

“I wanted to start begging but my mind told me not to ignore my skills for begging and I continued my job,” he said. “I have been into this job for 38 years and I have been blind for 28 years.”

Abdullahi he was, initially, able to see with his left sight and not the right sight. He further stressed that one of his sight was operated on in 1974

“I was seeing with the left eye initially but couldn’t see with the right eye while the other eye was still giving me problems,” he narrated. “The problem affected the other eye in 1996, I was driving when my eye went blank suddenly and since then, it comes and goes and later it totally went blank and I couldn’t see anymore.”

The professional mechanic, despite his his phsical challenge, boasted that he could pick work tools using his mindset and can also detect problems using his mind.

Meanwhile, his friend who is also an auto mechanic, Muhammed Jibrin, revealed that he has been with the Shuaibu for quite some time

He addded that Shuaibu is good at the work and know better than almost everyone working at the place. He added that the blind man has, orally, taught him so many things.

“I was the one always holding him while walking then he knew this work more than I do and I was learning more because of him,” he said.
