No fewer than 20 locals were reportedly killed by unknown gunmen in Heipang, a community in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Over 10 others sustained various degrees of injuries, according to a local press report.
The yet-to-be-identified assailants came in the early hours of Thursday and invaded the community while they were sleeping, the residents said.
John Mark Pam, a resident, said he lost five family members, comprising his brother, his wife, and three children, as the attackers invaded the compound and spared nothing.
Confirming the incident, the Police Spokesperson for the Plateau State Command, Alfred Alabo, told WikkiTimes that some of the officers were there to witness the burial of the deceased, stating that the command was working to give details in a press release to be sent in a moment.

“We are just coming from there. Give me some time, I am working on a press release for you people. We are just coming from there for the burial,” Alabo said.
The assailants, WikkiTimes learnt, overpowered local vigilantes trying to confront them.
According to the villagers, four vigilante officers lost their lives as several houses were set alight during the early morning invasion.
