Plateau Conflict: Bauchi Lawmakers Ask Govt to Tighten Border Security

Bauchi State House of Assembly has adopted a motion calling on the state government to keep a vigilant eye on its towns sharing a border with neighbouring conflict-ravaged Plateau State.

It also asked the government to urgently address the situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) hanging in parts of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The motion was moved by a member representing Lere/Bula constituency, Abdulrashid Adamu Mu’azu during plenary.

The lawmaker in his presentation said over 1,500 IDPs are taking refuge in Boto, Lere, Katirje, Zwall, Murno and Zango Committees in Tafawa Balewa local government and are passing through without shelter and food for sustenance.

According to him, Plateau’s Mangu LGA shares a border to the south with Tafawa Balewa LGA in Bauchi. He stressed that many people have been killed, some are seriously injured while others have been displaced and rendered homeless as many houses were razed down in Mangu.

Abdulrashid Mu’azu added that, as a result of the terror attacks, the affected communities have been forced to flee their homes and abandoned farmlands and other means of production and livelihoods.

He, however, called on the state government to liaise with the security agencies to keep vigilant eyes on the Bauchi State borders with neighbouring towns affected by the lingering crisis to forestall its escalation in the state.
