Fresh Killings in Plateau Amid Military Intervention

Oye James, spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State said three locals were killed in Nchya village under conflict-ravaged Mangu LGA.

The military spokesman said the attack happened on Sunday. He added that security operatives were deployed to the area to restore normalcy.

“Contrary to some reports on social media, that a village was attacked, that was not true. It was an assassination because the assailants went straight to the house of the victims and based on the report we have, it has indicated that it was an assassination,” he said.

Joshua Musa, a resident of the community told PREMIUM TIMES that the attackers invaded the village and killed the villagers at about 01:00 am. He further explained that the situation has generated some sort of protest in the community

WikkiTimes had earlier reported that Nigerian Army launched Operation HAKORIN DAMISA 4 in order to stem the crisis between the feuding Mwaghavuls farmers and Fulani herders in the area.

MEANWHILE, Berom Youth Moulders -Association (BYM), condemned an attack on commuters along Heipang district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The attack, the group said resulted in the killing of one local as others sustained injuries.

The association while condemning the attack, noted that it was an act aimed at disrupting the peace enjoyed in the community in recent times.

“The attention of the leadership of the Berom Youth Moulder-Association, BYM has been drawn to an unfortunate incident that happened around Heipang District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on Sunday 06/08/2023 between the hours of 7 and 8 p.m.

“The act of criminality where some hoodlums attacked innocent Citizens who were returning from the popular Kara cattle market. As a result, one Umar Idris was killed while the other victim is said to have sustained a gunshot injury and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Barkin Ladi.
