After a Failed School Transfer, Benue Student Commits Suicide

Terhembe Tyochivir, a 17-year-old student of Government Secondary School, Gboko, Benue State has committed suicide after attempting to transfer from his school but was allegedly denied by his own parents.

His lifeless body was found after hanging himself on Thursday in Akpehe area, an outskirt of Makurdi, the state capital.

Sources said Tyochivir’s corpse was transported to Bishop Murray Hospital Makurdi where he was certified dead by medical personnel.

Reports indicated that his sister’s request to change schools was granted, but the parents were yet to accept his demand.

Confirming the incident to WikkiTimes, SP Catherine Anene said even though the deceased had asked his parents to change schools for him, it is not clear whether it is the reason why he committed suicide.

“It happened in Makurdi, Gboko road. He requested his parents to change his school. I think he is schooling in Gboko. He said they should change his school back to Makurdi and they were yet to do that”.

“That is the only thing we know for now. There might be other challenges, maybe an autopsy will tell. An autopsy will be conducted to know the cause of the death”, she said.
