ATBU Don Asks FG To Redesign Entrepreneurship Curriculum

Professor Adisa Bello of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, ATBU has called on the federal government to redesign the entrepreneurship curriculum in Nigeria tertiary institutions and realign it to suit the existing education programs to address the economic development needs of the country.

Professor Bello made this appeal while delivering a paper during the 2022 World Engineering Day Celebration in Bauchi organised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE.

He said government should focus more on outcome-based education curriculum, citing vocational education as more goal-oriented.

The Don said if an outcome-based education curriculum is entrenched in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions graduating students will not have stress looking for scarce jobs but will be employers of labour which according to him will, in turn, reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.

Professor Adisa emphasised that government should strengthen the University, industry and government linkages in terms of the contract, sponsor of research work, professional courses Consultancy Services to create opportunities for students’ placement, staff exchange and joint curriculum development among tertiary institutions in the country so as to uplift the standard of education in Nigeria.

Entrepreneurship education was advocated to be introduced at all levels of education to provide learners with knowledge, skills, and motivation, and to prepare them to be responsible, enterprising individuals who become entrepreneurs and contribute to the economic growth of self-community and nation at large.
