The committee inaugurated by the Bauchi State Government toverify civil servants and pensioners in its payroll who are milking the state
in salaries but without bank verification number said about 380 staff were notcleared by the committee “for failure to meet the stated authenticationrequirements.”The committee also said it has cleared 13,285 workers out of14, 632 who do not have BVN across the 20 LGAs.
In a statement signed by Acting Director, Press Affairs tothe state governor, Alhassan Dambam, said 861 staff did not turn up for theexercise.
Dambam said the State governor; Bala Mohammed has approvedthe release and payment of October-November salaries for the 13,285 cleared by the committee. Hesaid the government has equally directed for the payment of Salaries of 101state civil servants who missed the earlier verification with valid reasons butare now cleared by the committee.
The statement said additional 10 days were approved by the Chairmanof the committee to enable it conduct verification for the local governments’pensioners.
Alhassaan Dambam who reiterated the commitment of the stategovernor to eliminate sharp practices said the verification was aimed atcreating dependable and credible payroll system.
WikkiTimes reports that the ghost workers saga has generated several controversies regarding the actual number of workers believed to be without BVN.
Following the drama, the state governor Bala Mohammed reverted from 41,000 workers earlier announced to have lacked BVN to 19,000 workers.
When asked about the fate of the workers who were notverified, Dambam said the committee will make public pronouncement to thateffect.
