Bauchi State local government councils (LGCs) and Bauchi State Government have received a total of N15, 916, 643,134.18 as their Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations for the month of February 2024, the highest they have received in five years, according to budgIT data reviewed by WikkiTimes.

WikkiTimes’ analysis of the data showed that the State and LGCs allocations for the February 2024 is the highest to have been received by the tiers of government, indicating that removal of fuel subsidy and floating of naira have made it possible for increased allocations to the three tiers of government in Nigeria.

February 2024 FAAC Allocations for Bauchi LGAs

According to the BudgiT data Bauchi State Government had received the sum of N8,240,534,935.18 which is lower than the N 8,956,397,968.65 allocation the State got in the previous month of January.

Despite this kind of allocation, many local governments in Bauchi remain deficient in basic infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, access roads, modern markets and modern agricultural inputs for farmers who constitute the majority of the local governments populations in the state.

Recall that WikkiTimes reports how Warji local government is battling with a dilapidated hospital despite the huge monthly allocation from the federation account.

The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) had accused states governors of diverting and controlling local government resources through ministries of local governments which deprive LGAs the opportunity to touch people’s lives at the local level which is closet to the people among other tiers.

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) such as Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) are demanding 36 state governors and the FCT minister to account for over N40 trillion allocations meant for 774 LGAs across the country since 1999.

Experts contend that allowing LGAs to access their funds would drastically reduce multidimensional poverty and bring about development at the grassroot level.
