Bauchi Police Officer,Four Others Reject N78,000 Bribe

An Inspector with the Bauchi police, Garba Muhammed, along with four other police personnel from the Department of Operations at Bauchi Police Command, have been honored for “turning down a bribe of seventy-eight thousand Naira (N78,000) offered by suspects detained for various crimes.”

According to information by the police, the suspects, 25-year-old Suleiman Habibu and 30-year-old Atiku Mohammed, residents of Jahun Area in Bauchi metropolis, were apprehended during a routine patrol behind Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium. They were said to have been caught with nine stolen mobile phones believed to have been taken from different places in Gombe state.

It was revealed further, that the suspects attempted to bribe the officers with N78,000 to obstruct the investigation. The inspector, Mohammed, and his team however “rejected the bribe”.

The suspects have been transferred to the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters for further questioning. Initial investigations also revealed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in their possession.
