Bauchi SDGs office seeks Energy Commission’s support on projects

Bauchi State Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has sought for the support of the Energy Commission of Nigeria in the implementation of energy projects in the state.

The State Focal Person and Director General of the SDG office, Maryam Garba Bagel made the request when she paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the Commission in his office, Abuja.

Bagel said the support of the Commission will enable them ensure effective implementation of energy projects in the state so as to to achieve the SDGs’ goal number 1,7 and 17.

The Director General explained that her visit to the commission was to explore available opportunities in the areas of training and advanced capacity building on technical skills for youth and teachers in Bauchi state on renewable energy.

She said the visit is also aimed at seeking the support of development partners working on renewable energy sector.

“Sir, my visit to your office today was to explore available opportunities for training and advanced capacity building for youths and teachers in Bauchi state on renewable energy. “And possible linkage with development partners working on renewable energy sector in order to support the work of his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state.”

“My special request to you is to consider Bauchi state in terms of implementation of energy projects. “These are all inline with achieving SDGs goal 1, 7, and 17.”

The Director General assured the Commission of the readiness of the administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed in the state towards giving the required support for the implementation of their projects in the state.

Responding, the Director General of the Commission, Mr Eli Jidere Bala pledged to consider Bauchi state in any of their future intervention especially on training of youth on solar installations, NYSC training, and hospital and rural electrification.

The Director assured that he will engage NBTE officials to look into the possibility of including technical training on renewable energy in their curriculum, to help increase skills and explore opportunities for students of technical colleges.
