SDP Scribe, Gabam lambasts FG over proposed N37b NASS’ complex renovation

The National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam has berated the presidency and the National Assembly over proposal to spent a a whooping sum of N37 billion naira to renovate the assembly.

Gabam who expressed his displeasure at the weekend urged President Muhammadu Buhari to halt the plan in the interest of the masses that are facing excruciating poverty.

“For the federal government to allocate N37 billion just for the renovation of the national assembly is a demonstration of injustice to Nigerians and a misplaced priority to say the least,” Gabam said.

“I wish to draw the attention of president Muhammadu Buhari that it is not fair, let Nigerians know that this is not in order. “I equally want to draw the attention of the National Assembly that, the action if carried out will jeopardize the trust bestowed on them by the masses,” Gabam noted.

Alhaji Gabam opined that the monies earmarked for the so called renovation should better be used to buy weapons for the security agencies most especially, the Nigerian Army that have been battling the Boko haram insurgents and many other security challenges in the country.

“The N37 billion naira should better be used to buy arms and ammunition for our security agencies, it could be used to build roads, hospitals which will be of immense benefit to Nigerians. “Today, in Nigeria, if a N2000 naira drug for malaria is prescribed for a patient, they hardly afford the price, and in the process, the patient may even die, just because they lack 2000. “Is it under this kind of condition that such amount would be used to renovate the national assembly? he queried.

Gabam who described the move as a sheer misplacement of priority, shamelessness and injustice added that such should not happen in a country that lacks good roads, hospitals and above all, a country with army of youth that have graduated without commensurate jobs.
