COVID-19: Reference Lab starts operations in Bauchi today

The National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has approved the commencement of formal testing and reporting of Coronavirus at the Bauchi Reference Molecular Laboratory today, Tuesday.

NCDC said the approval came after it has received the Laboratory Reference number and other necessary guide for operations and documentation.

Dr. Aliyu Maigoro, the State Commissioner of Health, in a statement says the molecular laboratory will start operations with immediate effect.

“I wish to inform this committee that from Tuesday, 2nd June 2020 we are going to do all our testing and reporting from the Reference Laboratory here in Bauchi”.

The commissioner said the State ministry of health would not delay the commencement of work at the laboratory since NCDC had approved it authenticity to commence operations.

He said NCDC has listed the reference laboratory as the 29th in the country.

“Henceforth, no sample should be taken to Jos, Plateau State until otherwise stated. “The laboratory has come to stay. As such we must work as a team for the benefit of mankind and the good people of Bauchi State”, Maigoro added.
