Dangote Refinery Begins Diesel Sale, Marketers Receive One million Litres Each

Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery has begun selling automotive gas oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, to oil marketers nationwide.

Dealers and refinery officials confirmed the news on Tuesday, stating that the refinery commenced diesel sales last week. This marks a significant step for the $20 billion refinery, which is expected to significantly boost Nigeria’s domestic fuel production capacity.

“They started pumping out diesel to marketers since last week,” a source familiar with the development revealed. “They also promised to sell aviation fuel soon.”

The news comes as a welcome relief for Nigerians grappling with fuel scarcity and high pump prices. The Dangote Refinery, with its massive production capacity, is expected to help stabilize fuel prices and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.

WikkiTimes gathered that oil marketers have received an initial allocation of 1 million liters of diesel each from the Dangote Refinery. This initial distribution aims to test the market and assess logistics for future sales.

The commencement of diesel sales by the Dangote Refinery is predicted to be a positive development for the deteriorating state of the economy.

It is expected to increase domestic fuel production by reducing reliance on imported fuels, potentially leading to lower prices at the pump and also to fuel availability by helping to address fuel scarcity issues that have plagued the country in recent times. The refinery’s operations and distribution network are also expected to create employment opportunities.

The Dangote Refinery is expected to ramp up production and expand its product offerings in the coming months. This includes plans to begin selling aviation fuel soon. The full impact of the refinery on the Nigerian fuel market remains to be seen, but its entry is a significant development with the potential to bring about positive change.
