Engr Ayuba Dauda Katagum has donated a canoe to Majiya community, an Itas-Gadau riverine village, a month after boat mishap claimed 18 lives in the community.
Engr Katagum delivered the canoe to the community on Saturday said the gesture is meant to ameliorate transportation difficulties in the village especially during raining season.
Engr Katagum who was represented by Comrade Salahuddin Yakubu Gwani said he finds it necessary to help the community as part of his humanitarian services a month after 18 people from Majiya village were drowned in the river to avert future occurrence of such mishap.
He urged the benefiting community to make good use of the canoe for the betterment of the lives of the entire members of the immediate Majiya village and neighbouring communities.
Alhaji Sagir Abdullahi, the District Head of Itas/Gadau, who received the canoe and spoke on behalf of Majiya community said they were overwhelmed by the quick and immediate response of Engr Ayuba Dauda Katagum in making available “the canoe in order to save more lives of people who reside in the village surrounded by river.”
