Enugu Assembly Summons Chez-Aviv Construction Company For Shoddy Erosion Control Job

The Enugu State House of Assembly has summoned Chez-Aviv Construction Company to explain why work on Umuavulu-Abor gully erosion control in Udi Local Government Area of the state was yet uncompleted.
It also expressed great disappointment at the substandard work done by the construction company at the Umuavulu-Abor erosion site.

The House committee chairman on Environment, Mr Chukwuka Eneh, made this feeling known in Enugu on Thursday after inspecting the level of on-going work at different erosion sites in Udi Local Government Area.

Eneh described the action of the construction company as not only a disservice but an attempt to sabotage the efforts of the state government to control the gully erosion threatening the Umuavulu-Abor community.

The Assemblyman, representing Udi South Constituency, wondered why the company had not delivered the project since August 2020, the supposed date for delivery.

He expressed displeasure that most of the works done on the erosion site had collapsed.
“Chez-Aviv is trying to sabotage the good effort of our governor to save our environment.
“This contract was awarded over two years ago and the contract duration was 18 months.

And from the assessment of the experts and our own assessment it was just 22 per cent completed.
“So, we express our dismay. He (contractor) cannot frustrate the efforts of Enugu state government to salvage our environment from gully erosion,” he added.

He stressed that the Assembly would not hesitate to recommend blacklisting of Chez-Aviv Construction Company from executing projects for the state.

He, however, praised other companies handling other erosion control projects in Enugu state for their good works.

According to him, the committee will visit all the erosion sites in the state to monitor the intervention efforts of the state government toward securing lives and property of the residents of the affected areas. (NAN)
