Guinness World Record: Plateau Hikers Set to Mount Hills

An enthusiastic team of hikers from Jos, Plateau State, say they will tour hills and mountains in anticipation to break the Guinness World Records with a ‘longest hike expedition.’

Known for its stunning scenery and rugged terrain, Plateau State has been experienced backdrop in its ambitious endeavour. However, its youths aim to change the negative perceptions of the people on the state.

Led by a popular hiking group, Jos Hike It, founded by Jerry Doubles, the team said it is poised to gather not less than 5,000 participants for this monumental event, scheduled for December 9.

The team said it will tour various challenging routes within the Jos and ultimately surpass the existing Guinness World Record for the longest continuous hiking expedition.

Despite battling funding issues, ‘Jos Hike It’ has been organizing hikes in the Jos-Plateau region and beyond since its inception in 2016.

Starting with a modest group of 300 adventure enthusiasts who explored the scenic hills, the organization has grown exponentially over the years and every September, the group stages mega hikes in celebration of its anniversary.

Its achievement caught the attention of many people. They were informed that the present world record of 815 participants for a single hike is held in Iraq and this inspired Jos Hike to pursue the official title and gain global recognition for its efforts.
