In a relentless wave of terror, armed bandits strike Zurmi LGA and neighbouring villages, challenging official assertions of victory against banditry in Zamfara State.
The north-west state has been submerged under a wave of terrorist attacks, resulting in the destruction of farm produce and homes, desertification of villages, and killing and abduction of unarmed residents.
Here is a breakdown of the shooting incidents by bandits in December:
1. Days of Bloodshed: Death Toll Rises Amid Rampant Abductions
From December 8th to 12th, at least six feared dead and an unspecified number abducted as bandits wreak havoc, leading to the destruction of millions worth of farm produce.
2. Reprisal Attacks: Bandits Target Homes and Silos, Unleashing Chaos
In targeted attacks, bandits unleash reprisals on Zurmi town and surrounding villages, leaving destruction in their wake. Homes and silos are set ablaze as terror reigns.
3. Night of Horror: Gidan Shaho and Nasarawar Zurmi Under Siege
Gidan Shaho witnesses a two-hour onslaught on December 9, while Nasarawar Zurmi falls victim on December 10. Residents recount chilling scenes of shootings and abductions.
4. Deserted Villages: Residents Flee as Terror Tightens Its Grip
With targeted attacks escalating, residents flee to Zurmi town, describing the exodus of villages in the face of increasing terrorist activities in eastern and northern Zurmi.
5. Zurmi LGA Headquarters Under Siege: Military Response Falls Short
On Tuesday evening, Zurmi town becomes the epicenter of terror as bandits storm the Zamfara State’s Zurmi LGA headquarters. Despite gunfire and panic, eyewitnesses report a lackluster military response, leaving the town vulnerable.
In response, Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, told WikkiTimes on the phone that efforts were being made to safeguard the lives of the citizens.
“A tactical team has been deployed to the area to checkmate the activities of the bandits,” he said. “The teams comprises specially trianed operatives deoplyed by the command to provide safety and security to the residents of Zamfara.”
