Hunger: Bauchi Vets Drum Support To Tackle Locust, Swarm Birds

The Nigerian Veterinary Association Bauchi State Chapter has called on the government across all levels to consolidate efforts to tackle the invasion of Locust and Swarm Birds for food security in the country.

The Chairman Nigerian Veterinary Association in Bauchi Dr Abubakar Mohammed Tilde said this while interacting with WikkiTimes in Bauchi. 

He said the invasion of Locust and Swarm Birds into some northern states at the onset of this year’s rainy season calls for concerted efforts to tackle the epidemic. 

The Chairman said its invasion raised fears for food security as farmers in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States started counting losses.

“Swarm birds and locusts are threads to food security in Nigeria. Therefore, we must make concerted efforts to end them. 

“That they are coming at the onset of this year’s rainy season means spelled doom for farmers and our dining tables. Government across boards, as well as the organized private sector, must unite to hasten efforts to end the invasion,” he said.

That was Dr. Abubakar Muhammad Tilde, area veterinary officer at Bauchi area Veterinary who spoke extensively on the recent invasion of swarm birds and locusts in Sokoto Kebbi and Zamfara state.
