Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday evening attacked Kuje Prison in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
The gunmen, according to sources used explosives and later started shooting sporadically.
Residents who spoke with WikkiTimes suspected the attack to be a prison break.
Adamu Abdullahi, a resident of Kuje council told WikkiTimes that the first explosion was around 10:25 pm. Though the incident led to a stampede as residents ran for safety. “But everywhere seems calm now,” he said.
According to reports, the prison officials were alerted of possible attack. According to Daily Sun, the attackers came through the back yard of the prison.
