Kano Antigraft Agency to Raid Warehouses Hoarding Foodstuff

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission has said it would start raiding warehouses hoarding foodstuff in the State.

The Executive Chairman of the Antigtaft Agency, Barr. Muhyi Magaji disclosed this to journalists on Thursday in Kano and explained that the agency would sell out the foodstuff to the needy.

Barr. Magaji argued that it was criminal and against Nigerian laws for any person or entity to hoard foodstuff while citizens are in dire need.

According to the anti-corruption commission boss, there was no wisdom for people or businesses to expose Nigerians to the dangers of hoarding basic foodstuff needed for survival.

Although Barr. Magaji did not state when to commence the raid, sources in the Commission confirmed that “the raid is likely to commence before the Muslim’s Holy month of Ramadan.”

It was learned that the raid may start from Dawanau Grains Market, the largest grains market in Sub-Saharan Africa located in the northwestern outskirt of Kano.

He maintained that bringing out the foodstuff and selling it to the public would help lower the prices of foodstuff in the state.

Barr. Magaji further contended that the law has empowered the Agency to either sell the foodstuff items hoarded in the Market or to seal off the warehouse found wanting and prosecute the owner in a court of law.
