Speaking during the commencement of the training exercise in Bauchi, Mr Nasir Argungu, the Director-General (D-G) of NDE, said that the exercise was part of the Federal Government’s resolve to tackle unemployment in the country.

He said the 300 youths were recruited and would be trained under the Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B-NOAS) of the NDE.

The D-G who was represented by the state coordinator of NDE, Mr Lawan Yaya, said that 200 out of the 300 were women to be engaged purely on cosmetology.

He said the other 100 which consisted mainly of men were to be trained on other trades such as tailoring, carpentry, bricks and blocks laying, welding,  computer training among others.

Argungu, who explained that, under cosmetology training, participants were going to learn how to make both liquid and bar soaps, hair cream, perfume, jewelries and vaseline, said the training would last for two weeks.

“The training for cosmetology is going to last for the period of two weeks while that of other trades would be three months.

“For the three months, the participants would be entitled to stipends of six thousand naira as transport fare while those of cosmetology would be given one thousand naira as transport fare for the two weeks,” said the D-G.

Argungu advised the participants to be very serious about the training, saying it was a rare opportunity given to them.

“My advice for them is that they should be serious about their training because this is a rare opportunity that if it is somewhere they want to learn it, they may be spending up to N50,000 to learn it,” he said.

Mrs Zainab Hassan, one of the participants who spoke on behalf of others appreciated the NDE and the Federal Government for the rare opportunity given to them.

He advised others to make the best of the training so as to be self reliant and employer of labour.
