NDLEA Officers Raid Innocent Man’s Home in Plateau, ‘Steal’ N500,000 and Brutalise Him, Family

Alyasa’u Idris, a resident of Yelwan Shandam in Plateau State said officials of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDELA) on a drug chase operation in his area, invaded his home, brutalised him and carted away N500,000.

The victim added that the officers numbering about seven with assorted weapons breached his privacy as they manhandled him in the presence of his family.

The businessman told BBC Hausa that he has never smoked even a cigarette in his life, but was beaten and harassed by the officers who later rendered an apology.

Idris revealed that the men also matched his baby girl with their boots and scared out his wives nakedly. According to him, all his four wives were taken to hospital for treatment and his children are still terrified after the midnight raid by the officers.

However, Idris said they later sent a vigilant group member to apologise, but he insisted that the officers’ atrocities must not go unchecked. “They even went to DPO and informed him that it was their mistake and I am innocent,” he said.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA spokesperson said the arrest of Idris was a mistake by the agents and they apologised to the victim.

On the alleged N500,000 carted away by the officers, Babafemi said the complainant should officially write and channel his claim to the NDLEA office in Plateau State.
