New report confirms WikkiTimes investigation on Zamfara banditry

A committee report submitted to the government of Zamfara state on Friday which indicted 5 emirs, 33 district heads and security agents including men of the Nigerian Army for being behind the blood shed, has confirmed the findings of investigative reports on the carnage published by WikkiTimes.

The committee, set up in July, was headed by a former police Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Abubakar.

It was meant to find a solution to the insecurity rocking the state. The report recommended the dismissal of some military officers and dethroning of the traditional rulers involved.

WikkiTimes had on 31st December, 2018 published the first part of its investigative story on the banditry in Zamfara, detailing the agony of the victims.

The second report published on 13th January, 2019 detailed how the victims pointed accusing fingers on traditional rulers, politicians and security agents for aiding and abetting the carnage.

It is not clear yet, how the government of Matawalle is going to respond to the recommendations of the committee, in its determined effort to nip the crisis in the bud.
