Nigeria Police Flaunts ‘NPF Rescue Me App’ — But It Has Glitches

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), yesterday, announced the launch of an initiative that helps citizens report emergency situations to the police, but it has many glitches, WikkiTimes can report.

According to a statement signed and released by Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the initiative, which comes in the form of a mobile application, is aimed at ensuring prompt response and assistance during times of emergency.

“The ‘NPF Rescue Me App’ is available on both the ‘android’ and ‘ios’ application stores for free downloads and usage,” the statement read in part.

“This innovative mobile application provides a platform for citizens to quickly alert the Police Force in emergency situations, thereby facilitating prompt response and assistance.

“The ‘NPF Rescue Me App’ is available on both the ‘Android’ and ‘ios’ application stores for free downloads and usage,” the acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, said.

The force had earlier posted on Twitter that the launching of the app came after the acting IGP finished a comprehensive tour of the state-of-the-art National Command and Control Centre facility and the Nigeria Police Crime and Incidence Database Centre.

However, the Police Rescue Me application has many glitches.

When WikkiTimes visited Google Playstore to downlaod the app, two users gave negative reviews as per their experiences in using it.

A user identified as ‘Scotty Bankz’ commented that he couldn’t complete the registration process on the Police Rescue Me app.

Another review shows that there was a delay in sending the One Time Password (OTP) during the registration process.

Furthermore, WikkiTimes reporter also downloaded the application at 8:30 am today using an Android device and started the registration process but as of press time, she had not received any OTP via the email she registered with.

Another user, Mallam Muhammad, told  WikkiTimes he received the OTP after 30 minutes of waiting. However, the app started slugging after inputting the code.

“The app completely slowed down my phone after I received the OTP so I had to uninstall it,” he said.

WikkiTimes could not immediately reach the FPRO, Adejobi. At press time, an enquiry sent to him had not been responded to.
