No Timeframe to Ending Insecurity in Northwestern Nigeria- Katsina Governor

Katsina state governor Umar Dikko Radda and chairman of the North West Governors Forum has said that there is no timeframe to end rising insecurity characterized by banditry and other social evils in the northwestern part of Nigeria.

Gov Radda said it takes time to find lasting solution to the existing security challenges bedeviling the region, noting that with concerted efforts of all at employing new technics, there will be improvement in the fight against banditry and other forms of crimes.

The Governor in an interview with BBC Hausa on the sideline of their recent security conference held at the United States of America, noted that intelligence sharing and support from other countries such as America, the insecurity facing the region would be sum mounted.

He said during the conference, they were informed of new tactics to be adopted in the fight against security, saying they have acquired intelligence reports more than what they know, which he said they would adopt upon return to Nigeria.

“We told them our problems and how they could help us tackle insecurity that is bedeviling us. We have acquired new tactics that would help us solve the problems facing us. What is more interesting is that when we came here, we have gotten more intelligence information about insecurity and happenings in our region more than many people from Nigeria.

“We told them what we expect America will do to us. For instance, an American citizen was kidnapped in Niger Republic and brought to Sokoto, within few days, the US government freed him. So, if America has these techniques and tactics, why can’t they help us”, he said.

He however, said, if governors from the region could be able to tackle the rising poverty level in the region, many issues confronting them such as illiteracy and insecurity will be brought to minimal level.

“There were many new techniques that we acquired and we will adopt them when we are back. We have discussed with agencies and companies who will help us improve our agricultural potentials, harness our endowed natural resources for the betterment of our people”, added Radda.
