Re-Run Election: INEC Distributes Sensitive Materials in Bauchi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed sensitive electoral materials ahead of Saturday’s rerun election in the state.

WikkiTmes reports that the electoral umpire is due to conduct a re-run election in about 42 polling units spreading across four state house of assembly constituencies – Ningi, Bauchi, Zungur/Galambi and Chinade/Madara.

The re-run is coming after separate court of appeal judgements that nullified the outcome of the March 18 2023 elections in the affected constituencies. The judgement led to the eventual sacking of a former Bauchi State House of Assembly Speaker, Abubakar Sulaiman and his deputy, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru Barade.

While distributing the materials at the Bauchi branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner Muhammad Nura said the distribution was meant to ensure the timely arrival of material to the designated voting centres ahead of the February 3 elections.

He said it was necessary to distribute the materials to the three local governments to strengthen preparedness for the coming polls.

Nura said adequate arrangements, the resident commissioner insisted that as usual, the distribution of sensitive materials is made at least two days before election time.

He called on the electorates in the affected polling units to conduct themselves by coming with their permanent voter cards to exercise their franchise.

Speaking, Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command, Auwal Musa Muhammad warned that anyone planning on breaching the law during the election period must rethink.

He said there is going to be adequate security in the affected local government areas.
