The Police in Jigawa State have arrested a 18-year old Safiyanu Lawal of Kiyawa for allegedly faking his own kidnapping and afterwards requesting for ransom from his father.
Safiyanu who was billed to resume school on April 17th, was sent on errand in preparation for his resumption but since then, he never returned until his father started receiving threatening calls that if he fails to deliver a prescribed ransom, his son will be dead.
The son who conspired with his friend, threatened his father that he was kidnapped and requested for money, which the father refused and reported the case to police.
Confirming the incident in a statement, Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Command said the incident was reporter at the State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse, by the suspect’s father.
“On 19/04/2024 at about 1430hrs, one Alhaji Lawan Dankoli ‘m’ of Kiyawa LGA reported at State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse that, on 17/04/2024, his son one Safiyanu Lawan ‘m’ 18yrs went out for shopping in preparation for school resumption but has not return back”.
“Later on the same date at about 2320hrs, an unknown person called him severally with an unknown number and threatening him that, the said Safiyanu was kidnapped”, said Adam.
According to the spokesman, police detective have upon receipt of the information swung into action leading to arrest of one suspect, Abdulrazak Salisu, a 27-year-old resident of Zango quarters, Kiyawa LGA , who confessed to conspired with the victim to fake his own kidnapping, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted after completion of investigation.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have known where the said Safiyanu was hiding and that they conspired together in order to collect money from the father; the team swiftly moved to the location and arrested the acclaimed victim (safiyanu lawan)”, he added.
