Taraba APC Chieftain Slams Party, Says ‘Primaries Did Not Hold In Nguroje, Other Constituencies’

Mr Shitu Mohammed, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Taraba State has raised an alarm that the party did not conduct primaries at Nguroje State Constituency as well as other constituencies in the state.

Mr Mohammed who is an aspirant for the Nguroje Constituency in the recently concluded primaries of the APC led other contestants who claimed that the party did not hold primaries in their respective state constituencies. 

He said that if the party did not take its time to manage its internal conflict, it has zero chances of winning the forthcoming 2023 general elections in the state, calling on the national body of the APC to wave in and save the situation from degenerating further.

“There was no election in Taraba. We were told the electoral committee for Taraba were in the state, but we never saw them. We were all waiting in our various local governments to receive them for the conduct of the primaries and they did not show up anywhere.

“We all waited without success and no election was held. We don’t know how the results emerged and some people were declared winners.

“To the best of our knowledge, there was no election whatever in Taraba and any person parading himself as a candidate is only fooling him/herself.”,

“We were told there is an appeal committee, but we don’t know where the committee is even sitting.

“We need fair treatment and we want our issue to be addressed. The party has internal channels of resolving issues and we want the national secretariat to handle this issue with care before it is too late,” he said.

WikkiTimes gathered that mobs attacked the committee that conducted APC state assembly primaries in Taraba with most of them running for dear life. The mobs alleged that the committee connived with vested interests within the ranks of the APC in the state to tilt the result in their favour. 

Mr Yahaya Suleiman, the Secretary of the Committee confirmed the attack on them, saying “that the results were sent and received by Taraba State APC Chairman earlier and on arrival, we were informed that the result sheets were vandalized and that soft copies were consequently sent to us for the primary election.

Our reporter reports that the APC in Tarab adopted an indirect mode of conducting primaries for northern and central senatorial zones of the state. 

WikkiTimes recalled that a group of 43 aspirants for the Bauchi State House of Assembly under the APC alleged that the party refused to conduct primaries in 11 constituencies in the state.
