Tribunal Sacks Jigawa Lawmaker, Declares Election ‘Inconclusive’

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jigawa State has sacked Adamu Yakubu, PDP, from his seat as the member representing Birnin Kudu/Buji Federal Constituency.

At the end of collation of votes, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr. Yakubu the winner of the February 25th election having scored 39,998 votes to defeat his closest rival, Magaji Da’u, APC who scored 36,735 votes.

In his ruling on Saturday, the Chairman of the tribunal, A. Okeke said that based on the number of cancelled votes and the margin by which Yakubu was declared winner, the election ought to have been declared inconclusive.

He said INEC did not comply with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act declaring the winner.

Mr Okeke ordered a rerun election in eight polling units across both Birnin Kudu and Buji local government areas.
