After Spending 61 Years On Throne, Zamafara’s Longest Serving Emir Dies

Alhaji Ahmad Umar, the Emir of Kwatarkwashi of Bungudu local government area of Zamfara State has passed on after spending 61 years on the throne.

The 93-year-old emir died on Friday. Until his death, the emir battled illness for quite a long time.

Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, Secretary to Zamfara State Government, disclosed the demise of Alhaji Ahmad in Gusau on Friday.

He said the emir will be laid to rest later in the evening on Friday at his palace in Kwatarkwashi.

Alhaji Ahmad Umar was turbaned in 1961, a year after Nigeria’s independence, by Sultan Abubakar III.
