Bauchi Partners OCP Africa, Commences Training Of Over 5000 Farmers On Modern Farming Techniques

Bauchi State government partners’ fertilizer company, OCP Africa to train over 5,000 farmers on modern farming techniques aimed at boosting agriculture in state.
The state commissioner for agriculture, Pharmacy Sama’ila Adamu Burga disclosed this on Thursday while declaring the training open in the state capital.
“Bauchi state government in collaboration with the fertilizer company is targeting over 5000 farmers that are going to be trained on new farming techniques under its famous project Covid 19”, the commissioner stated.
He said that the idea behind the training was to assist the farmers get farming inputs at subsidized rates for their farms as a result of coronavirus virus pandemic.
Burga further noted that the aim of the projects is to help farmers to get genuine fertilizer and other agricultural inputs to enable them get bumper harvest.
Pharmacy Burga expressed gratitude to the fertilizer company for the numerous assistance they have been rendering to farmers.
According to the agric commissioner, under the covid 19 project, 5000 farmers will benefit from the project, adding that the beneficiaries were selected from three senatorial districts of the state.
“There are 10,000 bags of fertilizer out of which each farmer will get two after the training. They will equally be trained on how to use the two bags in half hecter and believe me, they will get what they use to get in three hecters”, Burga assured.
The Commissioner said the project will help in educating the farmers on modern farming techniques so as to ensure bumper harvest ‘through the provision of fertilizer and other farming inputs.
He added that the project will also help to produce up takers that will buy the commodity from the farmers after harvest.
Commissioner commended the OPC for opening a stock shop in all locations where a farmer will find all that is needed to boost their farming activities.
On his part, the representative of OPC Africa Alhaji, Idris Adamu Azare said the programme is going on in 10 states of the federation, adding that, in Bauchi state, three local governments were selected to benefit from the programme.
He said the local governments are Alkaleri in Bauchi South ,Ningi in Bauchi Central and Shira Yana in Bauchi South.
Adamu who assured that the fertilizer and farming inputs will be sold to farmers below the market price, pledged to take it to farmers’ farms after purchase.
According to him, Agricultural experts have been trained to follow farmers to their farms and train them on how to use the fertilizer and other farming inputs.
Adamu said each agricultural expert have been given a tablet for data capture of farmers and motorcycles that will assist them to follow farmers to their farms
