COVID-19: Bauchi Senator commences distribution of food items to less privilege, vulnerable persons

The senator represented Bauchi central senatorial district, Halliru Dauda Jika has commenced the distribution of food items worth millions of naira to the less privileged and vulnerable persons to cushion the effect of border closure and restrictions necessitated by Coronavirus disease in Bauchi.

In a statement sent to WikkiTimes by his aide Suleiman Yamai, Jika said the items distributed according to include 3,000 bags of rice, 3,000 bags of corn flour, and a handful of hand sanitizers.

“The distribution of the food items is ongoing, we have taken some to Ganjuwa, Darazo, Misau, Ningi, Dambam and Warji local government areas to be shared for his people to mitigate their sufferings”, the statement read.

He said that the distribution was not done on the bases of political or religious affiliation.

The Senator’s aide noted that his boss has made adequate provision to assist the people of his district to overcome the challenges of life due to the incidence of COVID-19 Pandemic.

To ensure transparency and accountability, Yamai said that the distribution of the relief materials is been undertaken by a committee headed by a renowned Islamic scholar, Dr. Zubairu Madaki as the chairman.

Yamai noted that they have also embarked on sensitization campaign for people to understand that the virus which is a global pandemic is real so as for them to adhere to measures put on ground by government to curb its spread in the state.

Senator Jika commended the state and the federal government for responding appropriately to the outbreak of the virus in the country.

The statement said Jika has set up a committee that will carry out sensitization and distribution of hand sanitizers and other personal protective gears to fight the pandemic.
