Ember Months: FRSC Cautions Drivers Against Night Journeys In Zamfara

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday advised motorists in Zamfara state to desist from night travels so as to minimise road mishaps during the ’ember’ months.

The Sector Commander, Mr Iro Danladi, was speaking on the sidelines of the “Ember months’ rush campaign in Gusau.

Danladi said “it’s in the interest of every driver and even the passengers to travel safely and the current measure adopted by the state government and security agencies, bring the need for drivers to be educated against night journeys.

He said the theme of this year’s campaign is “Maintain safe speed, avoid night travelling and enjoy quality road experience “.

According to him, 50 per cent of the road crashes is associated with over speeding and this usually increases during the period of ember months as more people traveled across the country.

Danladi commended the efforts of state government towards improving state roads conditions and overall support giving the corps in the state.

In his remarks, the State Chairman, National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Hamish Kasuwa-Daji, said the union had embarked on registration of members across the state.

The efforts was aimed at complementing measures taken by the state government and security agencies in tackling insecurity.

He said the measures targeted at all the 9,376 registered members of the Union after intensive screening, saying any member found engaged in any illegal act, especially collaboration with bandits, will face the wrath of the law.

Kasuwa-Daji also cautioned drivers against night driving, over speeding and wrong over taking, and urged them to plan their journeys in time to reach their destination before sun set.

He said no driver should be allowed to load in any of the state motor pack if his vehicle has tinted glass or one plate number missing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ember months campaign flag off was attended by executive members of the NURTW from the 14 local government areas in the state, special marshals and the NYSC roads safety club (NAN)
