Gov’s Wife Decries Dilapidation of Girls’ School in Gusau  

Hajiya Hurriya Lawal, the wife of Zamfara State Governor, on Saturday, expressed dismay over the dilapidated state of the Government Girls’ Arabic Secondary School, in Gusau, the state capital.

Hajiya Lawal, who was on an assessment tour at the school,  said education was one of Governor Dauda Lawal-led administration’s top priorities.

Government Girls’ Arabic Secondary School, Gusau, was among the several secondary schools shut by the immediate past administration because of security challenges.

She said, “I am happy with this visit. I can see the condition of this school and I have listened to the Principal’s presentation.

“I noticed a lot of challenges, especially the issues of electricity, lack of vehicles, absence of matrons and health workers and general dilapidation of the students’ hostels, among others.

“This is unacceptable, we cannot continue to allow schools for our children to continue to be closed”, she said.

“As we all know, my husband Governor Dauda Lawal, since assumption of office as governor of this state has been according priority to education.

“I have a great passion for the girl-child education, we will make sure that our children in this school return to continue with their studies,” she said.

4 Kidnapped Zamfara Varsity Students ‘Rescued by Combined Forces’

The governor’s wife promised that the state government would urgently renovate and re-open the school.

Speaking earlier, the school’s Principal, Hajiya Hafsatu Musa,  commended the governor’s wife for the visit.

She said the school had been closed down about three years ago by the previous administration.

“Before, we had over 2000 female students, after deboarding this school. We currently have about 100 Day students,” she said.

Zamfara State is one of the Northwestern states ravaged by the activities of the bandits for about a decade, leading to the loss of hundreds of lives and property worth millions.

The recent one is the abduction of 24 undergraduate students from the Federal University of Gusau on September 22.
