Nasarawa to Increase Number of High Court Judges

Nasarawa State House of Assembly ( NSHA) said it is considering an increase in number of superior court judges.

The assembly said it would pass a bill to amend the Superior Courts of Record Law 2001 and for Related Matters.

The bill was seeking to increase the number of high courts Judges from 20 to 30 in the state, according to reports.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi slated the date after the House deliberated on a report of the House Standing Committee on Judiciary on the bill during the House proceedings today in Lafia.

The speaker said, the bill, if passed and assented to, will increase the number of Superior ( High) Courts Judges from 20 to 30 in order to ensure speedy administration of Justice in the State.

“I will slate next week Tuesday, 23rd May, 2023 for the third reading of a Bill For a Law to Amend the Number of Judges of the Superior Courts of Record Law 2001 and for Related Matters,” the Speaker said.

The Speaker also slated Monday, 22nd May, 2023 for the third reading of a Bill For a Law to Amend the Nasarawa State College of Nursing and Midwifery Law, 2021 and other Matters Connected Therewith.

The Speaker slated the date after the deliberation of the report of the House standing committee on Health on the bill during the House proceedings today in Lafia.

The House unanimously adopted the reports

Similarly, the House passed into first reading a Bill for a Law to Make Provision For A Contributory Pension Scheme For Employees in the Public Service of Nasarawa State and for Matters Connected Therewith.

Hon Umar Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the bill to be first read.

Hon Abel Bala, the Minority Leader seconded the motion.

The House unanimously passed the bill into first reading.
