The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has donated learning materials to no fewer than 625 pupils in Kebbi State.
The State Chairperson of the association, Mrs Laiāatu Bamaiyi made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Birnin-Kebbi while distributing the materials to some beneficiaries.
She said the matetials were distributed in collaboration with the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN),adding that the gesture was to complement governmentās efforts in the education sector.
NAN reports that the learning materials were distributed to pupils in Makers Maurida Primary School; School of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs; and FOMWAN Primary School, all in Birnin Kebbi.
āWe have distributed books, pens, rulers and pencils, among others, to 300 pupils in Makers Maurida and 150 pupils in the school of people with disabilities and 175 to pupils in FOMWAN primary School in Birnin Kebbi.
āThe effort is part of the International Girl-Child Day activities and also to complement the efforts of the state government in the education sector, especially at primary school level,ā she said.
Bamaiyi urged parents not to relent in their efforts to educate their children, especially the girl-child.
āParents should not relent in their responsibiilities to their children, and they should also see it as a must to educate them so as to become productive members of the society,ā she said
The representative of FOMWAN in the state, Hajiya Balkisu Zaki said the association partnered NAWOJ to donate the materials to the pupils as part of renewed effort to support education in the state.
She added that the association also enlightened the pupils during the diatribution of the materials on the need to study well for their betterment and the society.
āHelp your parents and the government by studying well in order to better your lives and better our society.
āWith education, the sky is not only your limit but your starting point,ā she said.
The Headmistress of the School of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs,Malama Kulu Malami, commended the associations for the gesture.
She called on well-to-do individuals to emulate the associations in their efforts to complement the governmentās drive in the education sector.
