Orodata Science, a tech-based civic organization simplifying and democratizing public data, has unveiled cohorts for its third ADH Community Journalism Fellowship program which focuses on climate change as it intersects with health-related issues.
The cohorts include, Afolashade Azeez, David Arome, Adetutu Sobowale, Jairus Awo, Ode Oduu, Kunle Sanni, Royal Ibeh and Yemi Balogun. The cohorts were selected across various newsrooms in the country.

“We are excited to announce the newest cohort of the ADH community journalism fellowship (ACJF),” Orodata announced yesterday. “The fellowship will provide intensive training and mentorship to a diverse group of journalists who within the next 12 weeks will learn through intensive tutelage to produce evidence-based and data-driven reports to address the health intricacies of climate-related footprints in their local communities within Nigeria.”
“Fellows are also integrated with the ADH professional community networks and get to participate in the ADH monthly forum on deep insights and solutions on common social problems. The fellowship also offers peer-to-peer learning, access to a larger network of professionals, and facilitated mentoring.

“The goal of the fellowship is to ensure journalists are equipped with more knowledge, tools and resources they need to produce high-quality evidence-driven journalism that engages stakeholders and informs policy. The fellows will use the newly acquired knowledge to shine a light on their communities,” it added.
Speaking on the impact of the fellowship, the Program Lead Emmanuel Oti, “The program has received over 300 applications this year alone, and selected applicants have acquired new technical knowledge that is already evident in their projects. So far, health-related challenges affecting about 1,577,747 persons directly across over 30 communities in Nigeria have been reported and amplified by the projects of the previous cohorts which include; articles, radio broadcasts and mini-documentaries”.
The fellowship program is an initiative of Orodata Science with support from the Africa Data Hub.
THE COHORTS
AFOLASHADE AZEEZ
Afolashade is a young female journalist with a strong passion and interest in journalism.
This has spurred her to gain in-depth knowledge of print and broadcast media. Her works have been featured in Leadership Newspaper, ECHO Media Newspaper, and several others.

She is currently attached to ARISE News Tv where she packages and produces broadcast reports with a major focus on particular features/reports on community and underreported issues.
DAVID AROME
David Arome is a public health professional and health writer whose work centers on public health, climate and environmental health, health, biomedical, investigative reporting, and trending public health issues. David has received training in health reporting, investigative reporting, data journalism, and research. He also promotes the use of relevant data for information dissemination and increases access to health-related information. David also carried out investigative reporting using OSINT research techniques and fact-checking approaches in the delivery of authentic and reliable news to debunk misinformation and fake health news.

David has received several grants, fellowships, and awards, including the African Resilience Network grant, Wellspring ARN Investigative grant, SI4DEV grant, Gate-field fellowship, DEAL fellowship, and TAU student ambassadorship. In addition, David has published several research articles in publishing outfits and international journals.
ADETUTU SOBOWALE
Adetutu is a Nigerian journalist with three years of experience in mainstream practice. Her areas of interest include; Investigative reporting, Fact-checking, Feature writing, Data Journalism, and General reporting.
She is also currently a fellow of the first Cohort of Reporting Violence Against Women and Girls Training of the African Women in Media, AWiM. She was a fellow of the first phase of the Inequality Reporting Fellowship of the ADCJ Sub-national Data Accountability Reporting Project.
Adetutu is a reporter with Platform Times Newspaper.
JARIUS AWO
Jairus Awo is a multimedia journalist in Nigeria writing compelling features, analyses, and explainers on climate change.
He is a Radio presenter with Choice 93.3FM in Benue state which advances climate change education through a radio program he named Climate Half~Hour.
Jairus’ Works are written in English and can be found at n reputable media organizations like TheMiddleBelt Reporters, TheCable, Premium Times, HumAngle, Udeme, and Climate Tracker.
KUNLE SANNI
As a staff reporter for PREMIUM TIMES, Kunle Sanni has a passion for storytelling, a keen eye for the truth, and a strong background in both print and digital media.
In his previous position as a Research Analyst at Lagos-based security, and finance think-tank, SBM Intelligence, Mr. Sanni spent four years analyzing data on research topics with a focus on security, oil and gas, and climate change.

In addition, he conducted two internships with major Nigerian newspapers, including the Daily Times Nigeria and Business Day Nigeria, focused on online content.
ODE UDUU
Ode Uduu is a data journalist and research analyst for Dataphyte in Nigeria. He specializes in using basic statistical tools to simplify large data and design data visualization for straightforward interpretation by broad audiences. In his articles, he uses analytical skills to provide insight and data analysis.
His area of writing includes health, climate, and economy. He holds a bachelor of science in economics from Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria.
ROYAL IBEH
Royal Ibeh is a freelance journalist from Nigeria. An award-winning journalist, Royal writes for Gavi.org/vaccines work, Bird agency, SciDev.Net’s Sub-Saharan Africa English Edition, University World News, and Leadership Newspaper.

YEMI BALOGUN
Yemi Balogun is a Journalist and communication expert with over 8 years of work experience in the communications and development sector from Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, currently working with Persecond News, a Trans-national News platform with a wide reach.
Yemi Balogun specializes in reporting issues that bother health, women, children, and other developmental problems, using strategic media tools, newsroom experience, and News platforms to amplify issues that affect communities. Thus, with such strategic reportage, we are able to hold the government of the day accountable to the people they are governing.
As a health communicator and influencer, Yemi also successfully implemented a campaign that promoted the uptake of Covid-19 vaccines in Kogi State on behalf of the Center for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) with support from the MacArthur Foundation.
