Police Officer Kills Soldier At Adamawa Checkpoint

A yet-to-be-identified police officer yesterday, reportedly gunned down an operative of the Nigerian Army at a checkpoint along Jalingo-Numan highway in Adamawa State.

The slain soldier simply identified as K. Ibrahim was among the operatives stationed on the highway in Adamawa. Suleiman Nyuroje, the command’s police spokesperson, Monday, confirmed the incident. He disclosed that a faceoff erupted between the duo which resulted in an exchange of fire. Unfortunately, it claimed the life of the soldier.

No further information was given to understand the genesis of the incident. But sources said the officers were under the influence of alcohol. 

About two weeks ago, WikkiTimes detailed how its reporter alongside other commuters were lucky because some checkpoint police officers could not find mobs to lynch them. This paper also unveiled how the extortionate officers were extorting money from commercial drivers.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande, has strongly condemned the recent conflict between police officers and military along Numan Road that resulted in an exchange of fire and murder of a military officer, all in their line of duty to protect the citizenry, ” Nyuroje said.

He added that the command had ordered the immediate arrest of suspects for a proper investigation into the matter. This according to Nyuroje would enhance peace and justice and also harmonise the sister forces.

Furthermore, the command directed the suspected police officers to report to force headquarters in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.
