Bandits Storm Katsina Highway, Abduct Scores

Waylaying bandits yesterday stormed the Katsina-Jibia highway, kidnapping an unspecified number of commuters.

According to an eyewitness, the bandits, riding on six motorcycles, invaded the road and fired gunshots to frighten commuters before kidnapping the occupants of two vehicles.

“They were not more than 20 in number because they came on about six motorcycles. They did not use any roadblocks but rather stood on the road with their guns and started shooting in the air,” he said.

“That led two of the vehicles to lose control and veered off the road and the gunmen eventually abducted the occupants,” the eyewitness added said.

The source added that security forces were notified about the operation while it was going on, but they only came to the scene some 30 minutes after the assailants had fled.

Lately, the Katsina-Jibia Road has been besieged often by bandits despite multiple security checkpoints and a military barracks along the road.
